Christmas Eve peril!! Don't do this at home

I am so thankful for quick acting family and friends and especially a nearby neighbor who saw smoke billowing from our yard..

We had a minor fire which could have ended really poorly if we hadn't put it out quickly with baking soda. We were roasting a 9.25 lb roast and the make shift foil pan below gave in and spilled fat and produced a large fire. We quickly worked to save the house.

Pizzelle.. Made these for the first time! You need the pizzelle maker and definitely a bit of patience but they were fairly easy :)

Slight Merrill peril - cut my finger doing dishes and forgot to soften the butter but otherwise a success!

Here it is - a Merrill Family Dessert classic. I have attached a photo of the final product and the recipe from one of my Mom's cookbooks  - Portland's Palate. I recommend using a double broiler to melt the chocolate with the butter.
